Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has expressed outrage that Pope Francis wasn’t born in the US.
“The Vatican says I can’t see his birth certificate ….can you believe it? That’s gonna change when I’m president …. I’ll install a pope who’s really terrific and who will post his birth certificate on Facebook! This one that’s coming here next week, he wasn’t born here …… he don’t even speak American! What’s that all about? We’re supposed to hire a translator just so American Catholics can understand him? I don’t think so!
Why should Americans pay the salary of guy in a dress who’s never even won a decathlon event? And you know what’s even worse? The press here …. the reporters …. not one has asked him if he was born here. Probably the language barrier because they don’t speak Spanish.”
According to the latest Fox News poll only 52% of Republicans agree with Trump that the pope isn’t an American citizen, while 38% are “pretty sure” that Francis is a Muslim.
